How did you get started with your music?
I began making music at the age of 13. It wasn't really planned. I gradually grew into it. By being surrounded by music, my interest increased in the music industry. It made me who I am today-Tally P.
What are you currently working on?
I am working on my solo album. I haven't chosen a title, yet. The release date will be announced on my My Space at myspace.com/tally upon the completion of the album. There will also be a release party for it in Arizona so stay tuned!
What kind of music do you listen to and how does it influence your music?
I like to listen to soul, R&B, Hip Hop, and some Jazz. The different flavors gives me a vibe and feeling that I can't explain. It adds to my creative flow and helps me write. I don't know where my lyrics come from. I just write from the heart. I can have a verse written in 10 minutes when I listen to music. I can be anywhere and doing something totally different when a rhyme just hits me and I'm like, "Man, I have to write that down."
What's your opinion on mainstream music today? What do you like or not like?
All mainstream music is whack right now. There are too many people in the game that aren't dedicated. They aren't dedicated to the music. They just do it. There isn't a reason behind the music and lyrics they're releasing. There isn't a passion for it. It just became a “quick get rich" scheme, and I don't understand how that was allowed to happen. For example, there are many talented, underground artists out there who can sing and rap, but all you hear on the commercial radio stations are mainstream artists who can't sing or rap a lick. If the underground artists were ever given the opportunity to have their songs played on commercial radio stations, they would blow a lot of the mainstream artists off the charts. Plus I turn on the radio and all I hear is bling this and bling that, and how the artists have all these material things when they really don’t have anything. They take music in a whole different direction instead of where it needs to go. The youth are looking up to these artists, and are growing up thinking that's how it is and it's not. So it’s pretty much corrupting our future.
Who do you admire?
My parents, Jay-Z, Nas, Papoose, Joe Budden, Little Brother, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Common, John Legend, Kayne West, 50 Cents, etc.,.
Why would people want to listen to your music over someone else's?
It's natural. No preservatives added. I don't have to tell people to listen to my music. Once they hear it they want to hear more. It's a natural attraction between what's real and what's not.
Who have you worked with and how have they affected your work?
I worked with Nexxis of Nexxo Entertainment, Dre Allen and Movemakers Entertainment, Stern and Odie of Go-Figga Entertainment, Young Hot Rod of G-Unit, and producer, Cease Werds, out of Tucson Arizona. They supported and influenced my evolution in music. They also help me to keep striving to become bigger and better than what I am at this point in time.
What is your local music scene like?
It's rapidly growing with each of my live performances. The more I share my music with people, the more people I see attending my shows and becoming fans of my music. They are also adding me as a friend on My Space.
Where do you see yourself in a year from now?
At home, far from where I am now in a sense to where my career is taking off.
Any additional information you would like us to know?
I'm currently on a nationwide, promotional tour with Dre. Allen and Movemakers Entertainment. Highlights of the tour may also become a documentary, which is currently being pitched to MTV. |
