Despite a website popping up on the web that most people believed was the official site for a possible Wonder Woman that displays a promotion poster with actress Megan Fox as the lead — there is currently no female cast for the lead role. Nor, is the film actually ready to go at all. (According to an MTV News report in September, producers are still waiting on a script). However, one superstar is ready for the female superhero role of the Wonder Woman, and she is Beyonce. “I want to do a superhero movie and what would be better than Wonder Woman?” Beyonce told LA Times blog Hero Complex. “It would be great. And it would be a very bold choice. A black Wonder Woman would be a powerful thing. It’s time for that, right?” The singer is not just making statements about her aspiration of becoming a superhero either. She’s acting on them. She’s already met with DC and Warner Bros. to discuss the role. “After doing these roles that were so emotional I was thinking to myself, ‘OK, I need to be a superhero,’” she said. “Although, when you think about the psychology of the heroes in the films these days, they are still a lot of work, of course, and emotional. But there’s also an action element that I would enjoy.” Beyonce told Hero Complex that her interest in the role came after she saw the costume Lynda Carter wore to portray the superhero in the 1970s television series based on her adventures. When, or if, the film is made, it’s still unknown who the lead will be played by. Producer Leonard Goldberg, who’s working on the film alongside Joel Silver, has been trying to get a “Wonder Woman” film going since the 70s. Back then, he and then-business partner Aaron Spelling tried to reel in Raquel Welch for the lead. Currently, a script is still in the works, and not even a director is on board yet. As far as the lead, Goldberg told MTV in September that he and Silver have discussed who would play the role, but feel that the actress isn’t the one who will bring people to the theaters. “I would go with a right unknown. People are not, in my opinion, going to come [to the theater] for the actress. They’re going to come for Wonder Woman,” he said. |
