NEWS: L.A. Rapper Damani Teams Up With Adidas For Limited Shoe

Upcoming West Coast rapper Damani has joined forces with shoe company Adidas for their off-the-court EQT Campaign, where the rapper was blessed with his own limited edition shoe.

The deal came after an Adidas rep heard Damani’s Congratulations Playa with DJ Skee. The title, ironically, is branded into the heel of the Adidas collaboration shoe alongside the rapper’s name.

The limited edition Adidas EQT Damani shoe comes in a black/green/red/gold colorway, which “blends high quality materials with urban style.” The shoe was given the added touch of rapper Damani’s logo and the words “Congratulations Player” added to the heel.

According to Damani, the Adidas collaboration was one he couldn’t say no to, especially since its been a label he’s rocked since Run DMC.

“Adidas were the frontrunners in hip-hop style as a kid for me,” Damani told BallerStatus.com. “All the early images of Run DMC and JMJ with the Adidas shell toes and sweatsuits influenced me to wanna be fly.”

The rapper also recorded a song and video in support of the campaign, fittingly titled “My Adidas,” a 2009 version of the Run DMC classic of the same title. However, remaking such a classic hip-hop track wasn’t the easiest thing for Damani to do. During the process, he found himself questioning the idea all together.

“When I first started rewriting the classic ‘My Adidas’ song, I stopped for a second,” Damani admitted, “And asked myself ‘Would they be offended? Like, who am I to even cover this song?’ But, then when it came out dope, I felt like I became I part of that history. I always knew Run DMC was dope, but after listenin’ to the song over and over again, I re-realized why they were so great.”
The Adidas EQT Damani Low will retail for $100, and be available at exclusive shoe stores in 15 markets only — including Atlanta, Seattle, New York, Boston, Houston, Miami, and Detroit, to name a few.

On February 21st, Damani will appear at Millenium Sports in Inglewood, California for a shoe signing on the sneaker’s release, and performance alongside other West Coast up-and-comers. With each pair purchased, fans will receive a free mixtape and a special limited edition “Congratulations Player Tee,” created by Undrcrwn.
