Although she’s in an ATL prison, serving a three-year sentence for assault, Da Brat is trying to be productive.

The rapper (real name: Shawntae Harris) is reportedly organizing a talent show for her fellow inmates called “Showtime at Alto,” named after the prison, Alto Federal State Prison.

Brat’s program will be based on New York City’s Showtime at the Apollo series, allowing inmates to showcase their talents to their peers. She’s even reached out to her longtime friend, DJ Nabs, to provide the music for the event.

Brat hopes that prison officials will turn her idea into an annual event.

Da Brat was sentenced to three-years in prison last year for assaulting Atlanta Falcons cheerleader Shayla Stevens at Lawrenceville Highway nightclub in Atlanta in November 2007. The rapper reportedly struck Stevens in the head with a bottle of rum, resulting in the woman falling down some stairs to a cement floor, suffering a severe facial cut.

She filed a separate civil case against Da Brat, seeking unspecified medical and other costs. That case is pending.

In addition to Brat’s prison sentence, he also received seven years probation and 200 hours of community service. She must also get substance abuse treatment, a mental evaluation, and attend anger management classes.

I would like to get in touch with DaBrat on the talent behind bars. I did fed time and preformed in many of the prisons. I’ve served nine out of ten years. I know I can be of a big help to her. Look me up. Check out my book Wise Up. I am internationally known. I know a lot of women who did time and is now on their feet. I kept my dreams alive and I know that this will help alot of them to recover. Thank you. God is good!
