Exclusive Interview

Tell us about where you are from and how you got to this position today.
First off, I’m JayD, real name is Josh and I am from Chicago; orignally the westside but I moved with my mom to the northwest suburbs when I was 5 years old. I now live in Itasca, IL with my mom and my stepdad. I’ve been writing music since I was 10 and I love it. I’m just following my dream and trying to get my music out there.

Tell us more about the current song you are promoting to everyone.
In “Seasons Change” you’ll find me talking about my past relationships and how it feels having  girls  coming in and out of my life constantly. In the last verse though, I’m talking about enjoying the single life and having fun until I yet again meet another girl.

What are you currently working on and what can we expect to see?
I’m working on my first mixtape, it’s a work in progess but it’s coming along and will be out shortly. It’s called “New Beginnings” and I’ll be releasing a few more singles soon within the next month or two.

Tell us about one of the hardest challenges you had to face in the industry?
One of the hardest challenges I’ve faced would have to be getting heard and being given the chance to show what I got.

What was one of the biggest set backs in your career and how did you bounce back?
One of the biggest set backs would have to be money. Me and my mom have never had a lot of money, but we’ve always had enough to make it and do what we have to do. Now I have a job and I’m working full-time while still in school and making music.

What are some things artists need to be careful of?
The biggest, single most important, thing artists need to be careful of is being themselves. There are so many “performers” now-a-days in music and not artists. To me, every piece of music should tell a story and lately I’ve just been hearing the same story over and over again. Music needs to be real and true and artists need to be just that. They need to be original.

What suggestions do you have for other artists like yourself?
To other artists like myself, I would have to say, just keep going and never stop chasing your dream. There are going to be haters but let them hate, they’ll only make you better and help motivate. You’re gonna be pushed down and discouraged but you just got to get back up, brush it off and keep going. You can’t let the fear of striking out keep you from playing the game.

What are the best ways to sell your products as an artist?
Personally, I feel the best ways to sell the product is to get out there and perform. You have to show what you have to get people’s attention. Once you have their attention, well, it’s really just kind of like child’s play from there.

What is one of your favorite ways to promote yourself and your music?
I like to use Facebook, YouTube, etc., but my favorite way to promote myself and music is through performing on stage, I just love the feeling of being on the stage with the mic in my hand and just being able to do my thing. I truly feel like God put me where I am on this path and it feels so right. I feel like I’m home. This is what I was born to do and I plan to do it.

Where can people visit you?
People can visit me in Itasca, IL. I’m working on some gigs and bookings in the Chicago area at clubs and fests so be on the look out. But yeah, if you wanna hit me up and come check me out, Itasca a.k.a I-town is where to go.
