Check out the new song from Nawfwest Nyce – Gettin’ It
Tell us about where you are from and how you got to this position today.
I go by the name Nawfwest Nyce. The Nawfwest comes from me growing up on the northwest side of San Antonio, TX. I threw a Houston twist on the spelling since I’m influenced by music from there. The Nyce part comes from me being from New York and since I was little my friends would call me d nyce to sort of tease me and its stuck with me since then.
Tell us more about the current song you are promoting to everyone.
The song I’m promoting is “Gettin’ It.” It’s another one of my many songs that anybody can relate to. In the song I’m talking about things I do in my everyday life. I talk about how I still hang with the same few people I’ve been down with since forever. I make mention about how this female I was dealing with did me wrong and basically killed my trust in women as far as being “true” in relationships. (Lol) But pretty much through all the highs and lows I stay being me, mind my own business, and stay grinding.
Tell us about one of the hardest challenges you had to face in the industry?
So far the hardest challenge I have is trying to break through the door! I’m currently dealing with a management company that can get me to labels, but the labels want x,y and z before they even take you serious. They mainly want to see numbers which is understandable, but the market and support system where I’m at is so non-existent it’s harder to get the numbers they want to see. But I don’t let that stop me, I was just in “Hip Hop Weekly Magazine” and I’m about to have a commercial running on B.E.T and MTV. So I’m utilizing major resources to try and get the numbers up that they want to see.
What was one of the biggest set backs in your career and how did you bounce back?
Hmm. I was in a group back when I was in high school, about ’07 ’08ish. We were heading in the right direction, and certain events took place and we ended up breaking up as a group. So I was out the music game for a few years and in that time frame I went through the lowest point of my life, so far everything was going wrong from money issues, deaths. I was feeling lonely and depressed, like my back was really against the wall; I felt trapped. But in that time frame I sat back and found myself and then my moment of clarity came. So I began enjoying life again and eventually turned all joys and pains into rhymes. I slowly got back into music on my own and it’s been going up every since.
What suggestions do you have for other artists like yourself?
Promote! Promote! Promote! Put your music any and everywhere possible, you never know who will see it! Invest in yourself! You’re going to get out what you put in. Don’t be afraid to spend money for promotional items (flyers, shirts, stickers etc.), website placements, studio time, or equipment. Explore your talents to the fullest, don’t be afraid to try something out of your comfort zone! Don’t give up, it’s a long journey, create your own path!
What is one of your favorite ways to promote yourself and your music?
Hmm. I really enjoy performing, but I would have to say shooting videos is my favorite way. It gives people a chance to get to know you more and it really gives us as artist a chance to really display what we’re talking about in these songs. I recently started shooting footage to start putting out vlogs. I want to show people that everything I say is true and show exactly who I am as a person.
