Exclusive Interview
Tell us about where you are from and how you got to this position today.
Aye, it’s the shark. I grew up in Baytown, TX but moved to Humble about 4 years ago. I’ve always had a thing for rapping so I decided to jump one day. Went from freestyling at parties to doing my thing on the mic!
Tell us more about the current song you are promoting to everyone.
The song “Combination” is a Wale instrumental and is just a quick little verse and a lot of my fans think it is pretty jam; kind of a party song. I’m working on an album right now though with straight original beats. I’m not a cover artist, haha, I like original beats ten times better.
Tell us about one of the hardest challenges you had to face in the industry?
Finding the right producer to put you on the right path. It seems that everyone I talk to claims that they make beats, or they can rap too, or they’ve got an uncle high up in the music world; most of all that talk ends up being exactly that – just talk. Find a good producer that has your type of feel for music and that you can create a good bond with, if not have fun with bad chemistry.
What was one of the biggest set backs in your career and how did you bounce back?
I got to say I haven’t had a lot of negatives holding me down, it’s actually been a really positive ride. But if there has to be one thing, it’s certain people not believing in me. I don’t care what a hater says, the more the merrier, but when my mom and dad tell me that they don’t believe, sucks. A few friends to believe it or not, but hey I’m here for me not for them. Keep pushing.
What are some things artists need to be careful of?
Well I stay on my toes when it comes to who I put my trust down with. I’ve had some fakers in the past with my music and it’s not fun once it bites you in the ass. Just be careful with who you trust because this industry is cut throat, not everyone, but a lot. Stay true to yourself and instinct.
What suggestions do you have for other artists like yourself?
Be yourself 100 percent! All my tracks are me and they couldn’t sound better as far as originality and voice. It’s all me and being real makes music good. And there’s a lot of stuff going through my mind all day about my music so never stop thinking about it and never let anything/anyone keep you down.
What is one of your favorite ways to promote yourself and your music?
Right now I just ask my friends to show friends and it spreads. A lot of people are jamming SharkBite right now and it’s just from talking. There’s never a bad way to get your name out there!
Where can people visit you?
Y’all can hit up my like page on FB at “SharkBiteTrey,” Reverbnation, and also my Soundcloud (which right now has my latest original song). Hit me up.
