Exlusive Interview: Lloyd
WWS: What series of events led to this day for you Lloyd?
Lloyd: I was a special kid, a lot of my teachers thought I was retarded haha. I’m messing around man, I’m just kidding. I grew up in Atlanta, but born in New Orleans. My father was a singer, he played the sax and piano. My mom and dad sang at my church together. My father was murdered when I was two. My mom moved my sister and I to Atlanta for better opportunities. When I was in fourth grade, I performed for a talent show where I was discovered. I signed my first record deal when I was ten.
As a R&B singer, how long does it take to write a complete song? I know it varies, but for you, what is the average?
Hmm, that’s a though one, sometimes I don’t even write it down. I just sing it. Sometimes it can take a whole month. So it varies completely from song to song.
How do you keep up with your fans?
I thank them in my interviews. Thank you to the fans all over the world! I keep in touch through my music, which I do for them. I have Twitter and social websites and through my blog. When I have free time, I go out and I touch them, kiss them and hug them. I also tell them I love them!
What were some of the toughest challenges you had to go through to be able to be where you are?
Most recently, to stop smoking weed, that was pretty though challenge haha. But, as far as for me. I think the sacrifices that I made when I was a kid were the hardest. I wanted to hang out with friends and go to parties. I never went to high school prom. I never even finished high school. Just all these sacrifices I made to make my dreams a reality were hard. That was probably the biggest challenge; personal sacrifices made for the better of my career and my art.
What should new R&B singers and artists know from you?
It’s about not having any fear. It’s about being fearless. You cannot even fear failure. You cannot care about what anyone thinks. It’s your dream. It’s not about what they believe.
What are the major labels looking for artists now a days?
I would say, they are looking for passion. They are looking for seriousness, and just the same thing they always look for; talent. It’s something you cannot buy at the store. You just have to be born with it I guess haha.
What do you besides music? Hows is your personal life like? Do you have any kids? Are you married or have a girlfriend?
Well I have no kids that I know of haha. I am not married, but I am married to the music, and I have a lot of girlfriends haha.
Where do you see yourself in the future? What are your ultimate goals?
Right now I just want to have a number one album man, and go from there haha.
What is the biggest change you’ve made this year?
I cut my hair haha, that’s probably the biggest change I’ve made.
What are some of the things you like to do outside of music or for fun?
I like to get tattoos. I like to play sports. I am really competitive. I play any type of sport I can get my hands on. I really like roller coasters. I like fast cars and those types of things.
