Tell us about where you are from and how you got to this position today.
Well, I am from a city in Alabama called Valley and you know its not that many rappers who is actually from Alabama. I’m sure you may have heard names of people like Rich Boy or Dirty who is that have become successful. I actually ended up moving out to California from being stationed in the military. I figured I would go to LA Recording School after I got out to become an Audio Engineer.Every since then I have been in California doing shows and building up a fan base.
What are you currently working on and what can we expect to see?
Well my group cd Green Day is done. We just got to finish the final playlist for it, but it should be out by the middle of May. I am also working on my cd Life Of A Young Stunna which I should be done with late May or no later than first week in June. Aside from than that, I am teaming up with my party with Blak Ops Productionz to shoot a couple videos from the two cds I mentioned earlier. You can find them on you tube in the future at www.youtube.com/lockboy334 .
Tell us about one of the hardest challenges you had to face in the industry?
The hardest for me I would have to say was coming to a new coast to do my music. I’m from the South so like my style is totally different from most West Coast rappers. Everywhere I have went to to perform people has shown love so that was like a big relief off of my shoulders.
What was one of the biggest set backs in your career and how did you bounce back?
One of my biggest set backs was being in the military. I mean like it was a good opportunity for me to get myself back on track, but I never had time to do music. That was the thing that got to me, but every since I got out I bounced back, and now I feel like I’m better than ever. So, now i’m just focused doing me.
What are some things artists need to be careful of?
I think artists need to be careful on signing any kind of deals. The reason I feel that way is labels will stick you with a pretty bad contract that doesn’t benefit you, but may help them get money. I just think speaking from an artist’s point of view that we got to be careful.
What suggestions do you have for other artists like yourself?
I just have to say to grind. Keep on grinding when its your time you will know it. Don’t worry about your music just do you cause somebody will like it. It’s alot of people that hate, but its alot of people who will show love also.
What are the best ways to sell your products as an artist?
Now to sell songs I feel you need to use Itunes, promote on you tube, use social networks like facebook or myspace, and really just network to put yourself out there.
What is one of your favorite ways to promote yourself and your music?
I like to perform at major showcases to make myself noticeable, as well as market myself on social networks to get my fan base up.
